interactive historical event timelineFor many students, learning about historical events is nothing more than cramming up dates and facts to pass examinations. However, learning history need not be boring or bland anymore as newer tools and software have come to the rescue of the students, which vouch to make the learning process an enjoyable one. One such tool that's used extensively these days is the various forms of interactive maps.

Since most of these interactive maps come with navigation buttons and rollover boxes that let the user browse through different social, political and cultural events of any particular time period, you can easily select the historical era that you want to work upon and then start the learning session. Be it knowing about the regions that formed the Persian Empire or the Royal Road that connected Nineveh, Sardis and Susa, a simple click on the map icons will show you the details of what you seek. While specific color codes are used to show roads, rivers etc, big regions may also be displayed using a single color scheme to help the user identify the same with ease. Unlike traditional maps that had a plethora of colors showing roads, rivers, cities etc, the interactive maps will show only what you need to know about. All you have to do is click on the relevant icon and all the details will come right before your eyes.

Some of these interactive maps even have a quiz section that you can use to judge your knowledge after you have gone through the details of specific historical events. Apart from checking the right answers, some roll over boxes are also present on the maps that offer additional information about events or places once you point the cursor tip on them.

In other words, unlike traditional maps and ways of teaching history, interactive maps get the students involved and help them dig deeper into the subject by offering various tools to entice their quest for knowledge. Perhaps this is why these maps are preferred by students to gain a clear perspective of the historical events and learn how to see the bigger picture without any hassle.
