Interactive maps offer a clear and concise means to present information to your website visitors. There are a vast number of reasons why you may wish to present users with an interactive world map. This article will examine five of those reasons.
Firstly, imagine that your company has operations in five countries around the world. In each of those countries, you have multiple branches. Your corporate website covers your global operations and you want to be able to present your global branch locations to users in an easy to understand fashion. An interactive world map would fulfill this requirement perfectly. The world map could show the countries you operate in with a different color. Users could click on those countries and the map would zoom in to that country. Clickable dots across the country could represent branch locations. Users could click on each branch to find out the street address and contact details for that branch. Users could even click through to Google Maps to show the exact street location on a map.
Secondly, imagine that you have operations in one hundred countries around the world. The interactive world map may offer an extra level of zoom. This world map can show the continents that you have operations in. Users click a continent and the map zooms to show the countries in that continent that you work in. Clicking on a country then zooms to show the branches in that country.
Thirdly, imagine that instead of wanting to show operations in different parts of the world, you sell information products that are country specific. This may be a tourist travel guide, information on personal and corporate tax planning, or a guide on buying real estate around the world. There are endless country specific products that might be sold. You can use the interactive global map to allow your users to drill down into the countries that they are interested in. The map can then display to them the different products that are available for that country.
Fourthly, imagine that you want to show your users some region specific information. This might describe your profits, activities or other statistics and narrative for each region. Your interactive world map can show countries and regions that will display the extended information when they have been clicked.
Finally, you may wish to use an interactive map as a search tool. Perhaps your user wants to search for real estate or hotels in a particular part of the world. Your interactive world map can allow them to drill down the the level they require, or allow them to pick multiple locations, before presenting them with their data. As you can see, there are a wide variety of reasons why you may wish to use an interactive world map. In covering a small number of them you can hopefully see how interactive world maps are a fantastic tool for clear and effective interaction.
